Lindsey's Design Portfolio

Welcome everyone! I hope you enjoy designs, because I have plenty to share with you. The purpose of this website is to create a place where all of my work from my Web Design class can be displayed together. I am currently enrolled at the College of Charleston as a freshman, and have put a lot ofwork into these designs. I hope you enjoy them-I certainly enjoyed creating them!

Working with InDesign

I designed my calendars for the Humane Society keeping the months thatthey corresponded with in mind. I tried to follow color schemes for a month in correspondence to one of its major holidays. (i.e. Halloween black and orange for October) I believe this gives you an instant reminder of what month it is without needingto put a lot of attention on the actual calendar, and then you can therefore easily see the cute animal pictures included with each monthly newsletter. Also, with the coupons being placed at the bottom of the newsletter, it makes them more accessible, and you can just rip them off along the dotted lines provided.

Formy event, I chose to host something that I care a great deal about, homeless dogs in need of shelter. I found it appropriate to use a picture of my own dogat the park, because he was a rescued dog also. The postcard I have designed has an elegant appeal to the reader, which is appropriates since the theme ofthe event is an “elegant evening” accompanied by drinks and appetizers. I used several different text techniques in this design, including width and heightenlarging, type on a path, and text wrap. Also, I made the title “Bark at the Park” two different fonts so the reader can more easily hone in on the “what”(dogs) and the “where” (park) after immediately seeing the postcard. It alsoincludes relevant information, like what you will be doing, who (dog) to bring with you, when, and where. I believe this postcard presented by Lindsey Peterson, Inc. would have a high success rate in getting people to attend my event.

In my business flyer, I chose to present my new company, Rainbow bikes. I believe this was a good company to start for several reasons:it represents where it is located, is something necessary in Charleston, and has a “catchy” name. I used many design concepts that we have learning in class for example, font adaptations, tint, gradient, rotation techniques, feathering, stroke, etc. I believe my techniques were well incorporated in the flyer, and make it presentable, intriguing, yet simple. It has a high visual appeal, using many colors, yet allowing your concentration not to be lost by too much color. It is very effective in getting its messages across, and provides a working phone number, address, and store hours. Upcoming event are even featured on the flyer, as well as sales. In addition, the flyer includes dates which gives the onlooker something to remember the flyer by. I changed the color of one letterin the words “Rainbow Bikes” because I felt it drew more attention to the company name. However, I did incorporate these two colors again in the “50%”and “October 28th”. These colors were chosen from the picture of Rainbow Row I have at the bottom of the flyer. I believe this flyer and companyname would bring in lots of business for my company.
